Right in front of us there is Mt. Serra,
the highest peak of the mountains of Pisa,
and from a naturalistic point of view,
“We are practically on the edge of the
Padule,” i.e. on the ancient Lake of Bientina.
In 1995 it was designated as the first
locally protected natural area of interest
in the Tuscan region, along with the WWF
Wood of Bottaccio.
We are near Collodi and Pinocchio Park and a step away from Pontedera and its
Piaggio Museum and the mythical Vespa!
We are fortunate to have Montecarlo di Toscana so close by, and there is always
the possibility of organizing a wine and food tour in the homeland of Montecarlo
Rosso … and not only that …
The menus from these parts anticipated many Luccan speciality dishes and such
tantalizing desserts such as Buccellato (a light ring shaped sponge cake) and
pastry puffs with traces of chocolate.
You can visit Lucca, Lucchesia, Garfagnana, Lake Massaciuccoli, and then Versilia
simply by following the tracks left by Giacomo Puccini … and while we are speaking
about Puccini, and obviously the theatre, you’ll also get the opportunity to
see the smallest theatre in the world, the theatre of Vetriano, Pescaglia, and
Garfagnana.
Then there are the Baths of San Giuliano, Casciana, Lucca, Monsummano, and Montecatini---all
of which are within reach at a very short distance. To get more of a precise
idea of time and distance, look at the following chart:
