We
suggest you print this description and
put it in your suitcase… even if your car
has the GPS device!
First of all, you need to get to the neighborhood
of Capannori.
It shouldn’t be too difficult because
you have a toll booth on Autostrada (Highway)
A11, otherwise known as Firenze-Mare.
Well, after you have exited the Autostrada
at Capannori, keep right, following the
arrow which says SR 439 SARZANESE-VALDERA:
you are going in the direction of Pontedera
and soon you’ll be on the SR 439 SARZANESE-VALDERA,
shown also as VIA DI TIGLIO.
Now you have to keep on the main road
even if you don’t see signs…
You will do several curves, pass 2 bridges,
pass on your left in front of the entrance
of “100 Fattorie Romane” (the site of natural
and archaeological park of 100 Roman Farms
on the Lucca Plain), pass through an industrial
area (Via Tazio Nuvolari) pass other curves
and then head to VIA DI TIGLIO or SR 439
SARZANESE-VALDERA.
There, turn left.
Soon you’ll see on your right a big ugly
building and 3 greenhouses.
Then you’ll see on your left the sign
of CARRAIA (Frazione di Capannori): keep
on 439.
Then - after a while - you’ll find the
first sign to San Ginese, but IGNORE it.
Continue instead on SP439 and you’ll come
to the village of San Leonardo in Treponzio.
If you see the SUPERMERCATO EUROSPAR on
your right, then you’re on the right road.
A little way further on your left, there
is a second sign for San Ginese, the VIA
DELLA FRANCESE. Don’t follow this
sign either.
You must stay on SP439.
After a while it may seem that you have
already passed San Ginese, but you haven’t.
There is a third road that leads there.
On your left, you’ll pass by the FRANTOIO
SOCIALE DEL COMPITESE, and then you’ll
pass a red-brick, low lying structure with
the inscription ANTICHITA’ E RESTAURO.
A short distance ahead you’ll approach
on left corner a yellow house after which
you must turn left and follow the arrows
to SAN GINESE and VIA DI SAN GINESE.
Pay close attention because the turn can
be a bit dangerous. There is a reflecting
road sign that helps.
Go along the road for about 3/10 of a
mile.
After a greenhouse on your right, there
is the road sign of SAN GINESE.
After a couple of curves, you’ll see a
little bridge and some cottages and, on
your left, a little avenue of young cypress
trees (don’t take it).
Finally, on your left, a bit elevated from
the street, is our cottage with its bricks
called ‘mandolato’ and behind this, in
yellow, stands the Locanda San Ginese.
Now that you are at the 266 of VIA DI
SAN GINESE follow the sign of the Locanda,
climb a ramp (slope), enter the gate with
the sign of the Locanda and park in front
of the red-brick barn.
Then, passing under the porch where is
parked an old white Fiat 500, you’ll arrive
in the courtyard of the Locanda. WELCOME!
